Mikel Obi assures of his readiness to partake in the Super Eagles qualifiers against Seychelles.
Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has stated that he is ready for Nigeria’s upcoming 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Seychelles.
Mikel Obi recently suffered a re-occurrence of his wrist injury which has ruled him out for certain games for his Chinese Super League (CSL) side Tianjin TEDA.
The 31-year-old suffered the initial injury while representing Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
There have been doubts that the captain may be forced to miss out of the qualifiers but he has come out to reassure that he will be very much available.
In a report by AOIFootball, Mikel gave a comeback date for his recovery and stated that he will be ready to play for the Super Eagles in the must-win game.
He said, “I’m getting better already and trying to get back into fitness before I start playing again; hopefully in a week or two, I will return to the field of play.
“For the game against Seychelles next month, I’m confident I will be fit before then but for now I just want to focus on getting back to full fitness.”
Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr will be very much satisfied with the availability of his captain for the qualifiers.
The Super Eagles take on Seychelles on Friday, September 7 in their second AFCON qualifier after a 2-0 loss to South Africa in their opener.
