The 26-year-old was widely criticized for his antics during the tournament after being accused of going down too easily when challenged.
However, the Paris Saint-Germain attacker later apologized to the Brazilian public through an ad, which was released by Gillette.
In the video, Neymar pledged to become a “new man” and to leave behind such “childish” things when next he dons the national jersey.
He stated that he walks off the pitch without giving interviews “because I still haven’t learned to disappoint you” and promises to keep the “little boy inside of me” away from the field.
However, it has now been revealed that the PSG superstar was actually paid an amount of £200,000 to render that apology.
According to findings by Brazilian newspaper O Globo, Neymar was paid “well over a million Brazilian reals” - more th an £200,000 - to read the text, prepared by advertising company Grey.

“Grey is Gillette’s ad agency for the whole world and has been with the brand for years. The idea was approved very quickly, and Neymar’s team also liked the idea.
“The text is very good, but Neymar didn’t interpret it well. I think he should have tried harder to make the text sound like he meant it and speak with his soul,” a source is quoted as saying.
Neymar has since been criticized on social media for his exaggerated dives and dramatic rolls during the World Cup in Russia, as well as faking an apology which he was paid for.
