Many can pretend but the fact is that Ghana is a football nation and its citizens will always love football.
The past week has been filled with talk about the Federation of International Football Association’s (FIFA) warning to Ghana on a possible ban.
In a letter, the world’s football governing body warned the West African nation to back down on all efforts to liquidate the Ghana Football Association (GFA) or face a ban.
The conversation on where the country stands is one that still divides opinion among many Ghanaians. From the airwaves to social media, everyone seems to have an opinion on the matter.
But it is not just about opinions, the Ghanaian public appears divided on where exactly to stand in the long-standing saga.
Of course the majority wants reforms in the game, but there is still some level of misunderstanding on what method should be used.

While some have advocated for a complete dissolution of the GFA, others hold that liquidating the Association is not the right thing to do.
Whatever decision the Ministry of Sports takes; it is definitely bound to have an impact on the future of Ghana football.
But the question still remains: are Ghanaians simply ignorant of what a FIFA ban means or they simply do not care?

It is also a fact that many football lovers have lost faith with the handlers of our football (the so-called football people).
But is it true that Ghanaians currently do not care?

A big no!
Many can pretend but the fact is that Ghana is a football nation and its citizens will always love football. The problem, however, is that that love has led to many people attaching emotions to this issue.
People are calling on the government to ignore FIFA and dissolve the FA not because they are ignorant of what the ban means, but because they simply want to see the back of this perceived corrupt FA.
If the ban is to be issued, it would mean that Ghana cannot play in next year’s AFCON. Neither will the country be able to host the Africa Women’s Championships in November and these are serious issues for any football nation.
But as it stands, government is torn between listening to the voice of the public or kotowing to FIFA.

There is no confusion about what the ban would do to Ghana and there is also certainly no reason not to care about the consequences of this saga.
But if you ask me, I think Ghanaians are very much aware of what a FIFA ban means and still care for their football.
