Liverpool have loaned out Taiwo Awoniyi to KAA Gent for a year to get more playing time.
Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi has joined Belgium Division one side KAA Gent on a season-long loan deal from English Premier League outfit Liverpool.
Awoniyi recently extended his contract with Liverpool but was excluded from the club’s pre-season tour of the United States of America.
The 20-year-old who is yet to feature for the Super Eagles is loaned out to Belgium in order to get more playing time and strengthen his case for a regular spot with Liverpool next season.
In a statement on KAA Gent website, Awoniyi impressed against KAA Gent while on loan with Royal Excel Mouscron last season.
At Mouscron last season, Awoniyi scored 10 goals and contributed seven assists in a total of 31 appearances.
Awoniyi has played for all levels of the Nigerian national team youth setups at U17, U20, and U23 levels but missed out on the 2018 FIFA World Cup
KAA Gent finished fourth in the Belgian top flight last season and has played for FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen before his move to Royal Excel Mouscron.
The 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner will be expected to be in action when they kick off their season with a trip to Standard Liege on Friday, July 27.
Awoniyi will join, compatriots Anderson Esiti, Kalu Samuel and Super Eagles forward Moses Simon at KAA Gent.
