Arsenal and Super Eagles striker, Alex Iwobi has admitted that he has not set any target for himself in the forthcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Iwobi told Sunday Sun Sports in Lagos on Saturday that he is happy going to his first World Cup and as such has not set any target for himself so as he would give full concentration on the field of play.

Nigeria’s manager, Gernot Rohr, last week released his 30-man provisional shortlist for the Russia 2018 World Cup with regulars such as John Obi Mikel, Alex Iwobi, Victor Moses, Kelechi Iheanacho and William Troost-Ekong making the cut.
Iwobi, whose goal against Zambia in Uyo sealed Nigeria’s World Cup ticket admitted that while he is set to give his best on the pitch of play, he is not one to make promises about what his level of contributions would be in Russia.

“I’m happy to be in the 30-man provisional World Cup squad and look forward to making my first appearance. As a team we have not set any targets for ourselves and for me personally I am just excited like any kid going to his first World Cup.”

On his decision to turndown England for Nigeria, Iwobi said that it was not easy for him to pick Nigeria over England. “It wasn’t easy for me picking Nigeria over England given the fact that I was born and brought up in England given the good care and treatment I got. However, Nigeria gave me good reason to stay on when I made my first call up at the U23. I was made to feel at home and wanted. My family is from here and I had no reason not to take up the offer,” Iwobi stated.
The Super Eagles are drawn in Group D and are to play against Iceland, Croatia and Argentina.
