Manchester City flogging by Liverpool was followed by an intense bashing of Guardiola.
Twitter wasn’t here for Pep Guardiola following Manchester City 3-0 loss to Liverpool in the first leg quarter-final Champions League clash on Wednesday, April 4.
Liverpool destroyed Manchester City with three first-half goals from Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane to establish a healthy lead ahead of the second leg at the Etihad Stadium.
The Manchester City flogging was followed by an intense bashing of Guardiola who has had his doubters despite a brilliant coaching career so far.
Despite Manchester City’s good form in the Premier League, Guardiola critics have continued to point at his inability to reenact the success he had with Barcelona.
Many believe that Lionel Messi was the difference maker for Guardiola’s Barcelona as he has continued to be with the successive coaches at the club.
The critics also attribute his league success at Manchester City to the unlimited financial resources he has had access to at the club.
Twitter go hard on Pep
After Manchester City demolition by Liverpool, the critics were back having a go at Guardiola who they also call ‘Fruadiola’.
“Man City can still qualify for the Semi Finals. Pep Guardiola just needs £500 Million to spend before the second leg. Fraudulent cheque book genius,” a Twitter user wrote.
“Pep Guardiola's away record is knockout stages reads like an Alan Pardew record. But because he is bald, th English media won't tell you people that. They are playing roulette with stats . Go & Google and see who they tell you is a Genius. Stop eating their morsels & think,” another user wrote.
“After that performance I'd like to officially say I don't want my name associated with Pep Guardiola. He can no longer be labelled "The Spanish Brendan Rodgers," another person said on Twitter.
“Pep Guardiola has the most expensive team in the world and his team didn't have a shot on target at Anfield,” another user wrote.
“So what has Pep Guardiola done that Manuel Pelligrini didn’t do as manager? Well... Man City can still win the Champions League this season sha,” another user said.
Liverpool top trends
As usual the game generated much reaction on Twitter as Liverpool was the number one trending topic on Twitter Nigeria.
As expected many were impressed by Liverpool’s pressing and domination especially in the first half.
“Best two teams in England by miles. Liverpool to win something next season if not champs league this year. United fans think they are better than these two teams. Great you once won something, great.. these two will be winning now.. enjoy the dusty trophies,” a Twitter user said.
Chamberlain impresses
Former Arsenal star Oxlade-Chamberlain was also a topic of interest on Twitter as for the first time in his career he had the chance of playing in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
There were lots of praises for the 24-year-old who scored Liverpool’s second goal of the night.
“Oxlade-Chamberlain was heavily criticised after a mere handful of bit-part performances – now he's fully integrated into Jürgen Klopp's regime – and the more I see him play, the more I feel we haven't even seen half of his true potential. Another huge goal and monumental shift,” a Twitter user wrote.
“Chamberlain is brilliant. Mocked for his transfer fee, slated by Arsenal fans. Reaches the CL quarter-finals for the first time in his career in his debut season at Liverpool and scores a 25-yard screamer, while they're sat 6th in the table and playing Europa League football,” another Twitter user wrote.
