Kelechi Iheanacho was unable to play as the Super Eagles lost 2-0 to Serbia in a friendly match.
Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has reportedly suffered a broken hand injury on international duty with Nigeria.
Iheanacho was among the 28 players invited by Gernot Rohr for the March friendly games against Poland and Serbia.
The 21-year-old featured for 82 minutes in the Super Eagles 1-0 victory over Poland in the first friendly.
According to the Leicester Mercury, Iheanacho suffered a broken hand injury which ruled him out of the next friendly game against Serbia which Nigeria lost 2-0.
Super Eagles handler Rohr confirmed that Iheanacho fractured his metacarpal bone before the game against Serbia which ruled him out of the encounter on Tuesday, March 27.
Speaking before the Serbia game Rohr said, “Unfortunately, we have one broken hand, this player cannot play. He has fractured the first metacarpal, so he will not be with us.”
Iheanacho has departed to Leicester City where the extent of his injury will be assessed to ascertain if he will be fit for their upcoming game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, March 31.
There has been no confirmation yet from Leicester City, however, manager Claude Puel is expected to provide more information about Iheanacho's injury in his post-match conference on Thursday, March 29 afternoon.
