“Vote Senator Dino Melaye for president 2019. Let us take our tomorrow today," read inscriptions on the campaign poster.

Is Senator Dino Melaye running for President during the forthcoming 2019 elections?

This was the question on the lips of most Nigerians as the Senator Melaye’s presidential campaign posters hit the internet on Sunday, March 4, 2018.

Vote Sen. Dino Melaye for president 2019, Let us take our tomorrow today. Enough of old age and cluelessness vote right, vote Dino...” read inscriptions on the poster.

The poster however did not indicate the political platform the lawmaker would be running on.

Senator Melaye also did not have a running mate, according to the campaign material.

'Campaign poster not from me'

The Kogi west lawmaker has, however, denied knowledge of the posters.

“It is ridiculous that enemies have gone senile. Printing Dino Melaye for President posters and pasting around to create disaffection from the presidency. Dino is not a coward. While I’m very qualified to run for the presidency of Nigeria, I’m not ready,” Melaye tweeted.

'APC has failed Nigerians'

The lawmaker has been really critical of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in recent times.

Speaking at a recent award ceremony, Melaye said his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), had failed Nigerians.

'Yahaya Bello wants to poison me'

The lawmaker also accused his state governor, Yahaya Bello of trying to poison him through the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

Melaye who was arraigned on Friday, March 2, 2018, for allegedly giving out false information to the Police with the intent to frame the chief of staff to the Kogi state government, David Onoja, was granted bail of N100, 000 and two sureties.

The lawmaker displayed toothbrush and toothpaste in court after he was granted bail as sign of readiness for a life in jail.

Trouble however started when some operatives of SARS stormed the court preventing him from leaving the premises.

Melaye was however whisked away in a black car with Senate official plate number later that evening.
