Stephen Appiah, Michael Essien to participate in ceremonial match in Nigeria next year

The duo are among 21 former top footballers including Liberian President George Weah and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba who will play in the charity match dubbed ‘The Match’: A Celebration of Excellence in Sport’.

Former Black Stars middlemen, Stephen Appiah and Michael Essien are expected to participate in a ceremonial match in Lagos, Nigeria in March 2019.

The duo are among 21 former top footballers including Liberian President George Weah and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba who will play in the charity match dubbed ‘The Match’: A Celebration of Excellence in Sport’.

The game is being put together to celebrate Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

Other stars expected to take part in the match include Senegal’s El -Hajj Diouf, Drogba’s former Elephants teammate, Kolo Toure, former French star and Christian Karembu amongst others.

Appiah, 40, has retired from football while Michael Essien who is clubless has revealed he will call time on his career in 2020.
