A blood unit from the Komfo Ankoye Teaching Hospital alleged to be HIV and Syphilis positive is said to be false as retest on the blood came out negative.

One Addo Kwabla-Evans posted Facebook Saturday that he bought the blood unit from the blood bank of KATH for his sick mother but a test on the blood at the Kean Health Centre, where is mother is receiving treatment, showed the presence of HIV and Syphilis.
Authorities at the largest hospital in the Ashanti Region "took a serious view" of the allegation and formed a "five-member committee to establish the veracity or otherwise" of the patient's claim.
The matter has also been reported to the police for further investigation, a statement issued by KATH said.
But according Editor of health website Ghanahealthnest, Kobby Blay, the blood has been retrieved from the patient and retested, witnessed by the complainant together with some officials of the KATH Transfusion Unit, Ghana Aids Commission and the security.
"Earlier allegations of the presence of HIV and syphilis were false as results came out negative," he wrote on Facebook. "There are hints that further testing will be carried out later Accra."

The complainant, Kwabla-Evans, is said to be satisfied with the outcomes so far.
Meanwhile, authorities at the Kean Health Centre where the blood unit allegedly tested positive for AIDS and Syphilis, are yet to comment on the matter.
