Christian Atsu pays for release of nine African prisoners

The Ghanaian midfielder continues to touch lives

Christian Atsu has made the headlines again after he paid for the release of nine prisoners in Ghana.

Atsu some few months ago was in the news for paying for the release of a 62-year-old woman and her daughter who were convicted for stealing corn.

He has liaised with Crime Check Foundation to help release some of the poorest prisoners in Ghana, who have been jailed for petty offences.

In all the Newcastle United midfielder has paid for the release of nine African prisoners and is committed to ensuring that more people are touched in the near future.

"He has so far donated seven thousand pounds into the Petty Offenders Fund which has been launched by our Crime Check Foundation to take care of misdemeanors," spokesperson Crime Check Foundation told ChronicleLive

"The amount will cater for about thirty prisoners.

"Currently, nine prisoners have been released. He has promised to release many more."

The charity previously confirmed he had helped pay the fines of some criminals while providing money for the "voiceless".
