Sadio Mane has revealed the reason why he rejected a move to Manchester United.
Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has stated that a move to Manchester United felt wrong when he was approached at RB Salzburg.
Mane who is now among the Liverpool attacking trio comprising of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino was priced away from Southampton by Jurgen Klopp in the 2014/15 season.
Before the move to English Premier League, Mane confirmed that there was an approach from Louis Van Gaal to bring him to Old Trafford while he in Austria.
In an interview with SuperSport, Mane disclosed that he wanted to make the leap to come to play in England but had to reject a £25million move from Van Gaal before he eventually signed for Southampton in 2014.
In the interview, Mane stated that he had a conversation with Van Gaal but knew that Manchester United was the wrong club for him to go which hindered the move at the time.
Mane admitted that he was surprised that Manchester United were interested in a young player like him.
He said, “I could not believe it, because even some club wanted me like Manchester.
“The wrong team wanted me by the way — of course United.
“I spoke with Van Gaal and they even made an offer, but for me it was not the right club and not the right moment.”
He also confirmed the amount they were willing to pay but insisted that it was not right time to come to England as a player still developing.
He said, “But with this it's the right moment, the right coach and the right club.
“Yeah I spoke with him and Salzburg asked for £25m, but with all respect I was not that good for £25m and that's why I didn't go there.”
Since joining Liverpool in 2016, Mane has contributed 37 goals in a total of 76 appearances.
Mane who is a nominee for the Premier League Player of the Month award will aim to score his fifth goal of the season when Liverpool travel to Wembley to face Tottenham Hotspur in their next fixture on Saturday, September 15.
