Saraki: APC senators move to Sheraton hotel "for senate president's impeachment"

APC senators move to Sheraton "for Saraki's impeachment"

APC senators move to Sheraton hotel in Abuja as they put finishing touches to the plot aimed at impeaching Saraki as senate president.

Senators elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are currently making their way to the ritzy Sheraton Hotels and Towers in the nation’s capital city of Abuja, as the plot to impeach Senate President Bukola Saraki gathers pace.

Pulse had earlier reported that masked operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) had stormed the national assembly and barricaded the gates to Nigeria’s parliament.

An aide of Senate President Bukola Saraki told Pulse that “the senators loyal to the government are now convening in Sheraton Hotel where the illegal impeachment exercise will be commencing”.

The genesis of Saraki's troubles

Elected senator on the platform of the APC in the 2015 general elections, Saraki wasn’t his party’s choice for the position of senate president. However, the Kwara born politician manoeuvred his election--well against his party’s wish--while working in cahoots with PDP senators.

It was the day the battle line between Saraki and the APC hierarchy was drawn. A slew of corruption charges would be thrown Saraki's way for full measure.

The APC has been holding clandestine meetings to impeach Saraki since the senate president’s defection to the PDP on July 31.

Senate presidents and speakers are often elected from the majority and governing party. The PDP and APC are claiming majority seats in Nigeria’s 109 member senate.

The APC requires two-thirds majority in the senate to impeach Saraki and one-third to form a quorum.
