Woman arrested for playing same opera song for 16 years

The woman identified only as "Eva" was charged with harassment and malicious persecution of her neighbours.

A woman from Slovakian was reportedly arrested and is being prosecuted for playing Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata repeatedly for 16 consecutive years, causing nuisance to neighbours.

According to a Hungarian news site, Parameter.sk, the woman identified only as "Eva" has been charged with harassment and malicious persecution of her neighbours.

Her offence was that she forced her neighbors to endure the monotonous sound for the past 16 years.

Upi.com reports that Eva resorted to playing La Traviata in order to avoid hearing noisy barking sound of neighbour’s dog.

It is however not clear why the decision to play same song repeatedly for close to two decades, if not for malicious reasons.

Apparently, neighbours who could not bear the boring sound of same music any further reported the woman to the appropriate authorities, leading to her arrest.

One of the neighbours is quoted by Hungarian news site Index.hu as saying she loves the singer and the song, "but not like this!"

Another also said: "The whole street is suffering," as a result of Eva’s weird admiration for Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata.

It is also reported that "Eva" is likely to spend up to six months in prison for the offence if found guilty.
