Another games, another record for Lionel Messi who was at his imperious best for Barcelona against Deportivo Alaves.
Lionel Messi was the star of the show again as he set two records in Barcelona's 3-0 victory over Deportivo Alaves in a La Liga encounter played on Saturday, August 18.
Messi who is now captain of the side scored two goals while Phillipe Coutinho added another to give the reigning La Liga champions a winning start to the season.
In the game against Alaves by scoring Messi set two new records for the Catalan giants as they kicked off their season.
Messi scores Barcelona's 6,000th La Liga goal
Lionel Messi's first record on the night was that he scored what turned out to be Barcelona's 6,000th goal in the Spanish top division.
Coutinho scored Barcelona's 5999th in the last La Liga game of 2017/18 season in a 1-0 win against Real Socieded.
It meant that whoever opened the scoring for Barcelona in the new season will put his name in the club's history books for the 6,000th goal.

Barcelona are still however behind Real Madrid in total goals scored in La Liga as the y have a total of 6041.
Messi scores in 15th La Liga season
Lionel Messi's other record in the game against Alaves was that he has now scored in the 15th straight La Liga season for Barcelona.
The result meant that since his goal in the 2004/05 season against Albacete , Messi has never failed to find the back of the net in a season.
