The box to box midfielder is the first Ghanaian to win the UEFA Super Cup.
Thomas Partey made history on Wednesday when Atletico Madrid defeated their bitterest rivals Real Madrid 4-2 to win the UEFA Super Cup.
Diego Costa opened the scoring under one minute, but Karim Benzema drew Real Madrid level, before Sergio Ramos put the European champions in the driving seat.

Costa saved Atletico Madrid with the equalizer in the 78th minute to send the game into extra time.
Real Madrid went to sleep and conceded two goals- Saul Niguez and Koke scored for the UEFA Europa League.
Thomas Partey who came on in the 90th minute and even gave an assist in the extra time made history as the first Ghanaian to win the UEFA Super League.
Abedi Pele, the first Ghanaian to win the Champions League couldn’t play in the Super Cup because Marseille were handed a ban, after the triumph.
Samuel Osei Kuffour and his Bayern Munich side lost the Super Cup in 2001 against Liverpool and before that Ibrahim Tanko and Bayern Munich had lost the Super Cup after winning the UEFA Champions League in 1997.
Atletico Madrid also defeated Sulley Muntari’s Inter Milan 2-0 in the final of the 2010 Super Cup.
The latest Ghanaian to lose the Super Cup with his club was Michael Essien in 2012 when they suffered a 1-4 defeat to Atletico Madrid.
