Anas catches Nigeria coach receiving bribe

Top football coach, Salisu Yusuf, who manages the Super Eagles Team B, was caught on camera taking cash to include some players in last year’s CHAN competition hosted in Ghana.

Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has released the latest extension of his “Number 12” exposé, which captures a Nigerian coach taking money to allegedly influence player selection.

Top football coach, Salisu Yusuf, who manages the Super Eagles Team B (a team comprised of only locally-based players), was caught on camera taking cash to include some players in last year’s CHAN competition hosted in Ghana.

Nigeria made it to the final of the tournament, before losing 4-1 to eventual winners Ghana, but it has now emerged that the Super Eagles coach took an amount of $1,000 to include two players in his CHAN team.

The video, which was broadcast by the BBC, has however, been refuted by Salisu Yussuf, who insists the money he received qualifies as a gift rather than a bribe.

He explained to the BBC that the cash was $750 and not $1,000, as reported by Anas and his Tiger Eye PI team, adding that the money did not even influence his tea selection.

Anas’ “Number 12” exposé caused a major storm in Ghana football, leading to the resignation of GFA boss, Kwesi Nyantakyi and other officials.
