Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun is started training with his new teammates at Brighton & Hove Albion after participating at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Balogun signed for the Seagulls from FSV Mainz just before the start of the World Cup in Russia and was given an extended break due to his participation at the tournament.
Speaking to the official Brighton and Hove Albion website, Balogun revealed that he will give his all for his new club as they step up preparations in preseason.
He said, “The league starts very soon and between now and then it’s about getting up to speed with everyone else as soon as possible.
“Then I want to take it from there, but I’ll give everything I can to improve what this group already has and play the biggest role that I can for the team.”
Balogun reiterated his disappointment at not qualifying for the round of 16 as the Super Eagles exited the competition at the group staage.
He said, “It’s been an exciting journey and the experience is something I will always be grateful for.
“I still think about the last-minute defeat to Argentina and it does hurt a little bit, but life goes on and I’m happy to be here now with that experience on my side.”
He also praised the reception he received from the officials and teammates and stated that he is comfortable with his new surroundings.
He said, “It’s my first day [Wednesday] and I’ve just finished – I was really warmly received and it’s a nice group.

Balogun is expected to feature in Brighton’s last preseason games against AFC Wimbledon, Charlton Athletic, Birmingham City and Sporting Lisbon before they begin their campaign against Watford on Saturday, August, 11.
