Abeiku Jackson sets new 100m butterfly record

Ghana’s swimming wonder kid Abeiku Jackson has yet chalked another success in the sport. The 17 year old set a new African record in swimming at the just ended African youth games in Algiers.

Jackson competed in the men’s 100m butterfly where he finished first with a time of 54.74secs to break the time that was held by South Africa. This feat saw him make the finals of the competition.

Ghana’s other representation Abdulah Sowah also competed with in the 50m butterfly but failed to make it to the next round of his event.

The coach of the swimming team Abbiw Jackson commended his swimmers on their output and urged them to perform better.

The African Youth Games is an international multi-sport event which occurs every four years to in addition to the current All-Africa Games. It is eligible to athletes between the ages of 14 and 17.

It is aimed at contributing to the development of African sport as well as act as a trial run for the Olympic Games. The first games was hosted by Rabat, Morocco.
