Will Idris Elba be the next James Bond? Perhaps not. But the British actor will be playing the main villain in the upcoming Fast and Furious spin-off Hobbs and Shaw, according to Variety.
The former Men's Health cover guy is in final negotiations for the part, which will see him pitted against Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw. Talk about a trio of fit dudes.
The film - which fueled the bizarre beef between The Rock and Fast costar Tyrese Gibson - will focus on federal agent Hobbs and criminal mastermind Shaw "forming an unlikely alliance," according to IMDb.
"Sources say Elba’s character is the antagonist the duo will go up against," Variety reports.
The Rock confirmed Elba's casting on Twitter: "I promised we were going to make this Fast & Furious spin off awesome and grow our franchise properly," he wrote. "He’s a bad man (legit bad ass). I better toughen up #HobbsAndShaw" (No kidding - Elba is a longtime kickboxer and has said he's always ready to fight at a moment's notice.)
The movie is set to come out on July 26, 2019, which happens to be Statham's 52nd birthday.
