Azumah Nelson was honoured by the WBC,GBA WBL and other stakeholders on his 60th birthday
It was a great night of boxing on the Azumah Nelson @ 60 edition of the Azumah Nelson Fight Night. The boxing “Professor” ended 60th his birthday celebrations in the grandest of styles with a lot of pomp and pageantry to go with some grueling encounters at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday.
The night which promised to be a night where some budding talents emerging in the West Africa sub region will showcase what they are worth in epic encounters.
The wonderful evening of 21 July 2018 started with an International bout between WBA Superfeatherweight Champion Wahab Oluwaseun and his Togolese contender Mouibi Sarouna. The Champion from Nigeria did prove his mettle as they beat Mouibi Sourana by way of Technical knockout in the 6 round to retain his title.

It then went on to a super middleweight contest between Emmanuel Danso A.K.A Kwahu Tyson and Stephen Abbey. Danso was literally brought down to his knees in the 6 round which saw Stephen Abbey win the bout by way of knockout. This came after Emmanuel Danso was struggling to find his feet after Abbey’s hard hooks got him kneeling on the canvas.
It then moved on to the National Lightweight Competition between Benjamin “Daddy Lumba” Lamptey and Sherrif Quaye(One time).
Quaye had Lamptey rethink his alias would be better suited for music as “Daddy Lumba” was knocked out “one time” in the 7 round.
It was time for the penultimate bout between Micheal Ansah (One bullet) and Zongo Fire. This fight went the distance of all 10 rounds but in truth the bout did seem one sided from the 4 round. The dominant force was Micheal Ansah who won by unanimous decision at the end of it all.

The pomp and pageantry needed to set in for Azumah Nelson to be honored in different ways. The ring announcer on the night Nathaniel Attoh called for a number of dignitaries present which included the Ghana Boxing Authority President Peter Zwennes, The Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu, British High Commissioner Ian Walker, Boxing Legend DK Poison.
These individuals aided the presentation of various accolades bestowed on Azumah Nelson including a special title from the WBC with his named embossed on it and ultimately the cutting of the legends birthday cake.
This beautiful ceremony was followed by a performance by Ghanaian rapper M.anifest right before the 12 round ultimate showdown between Abraham Osei Bonsu(No shaking) going up against Emmanuel Ayi for National Featherweight title.

The bout did start with some physicality’s beyond measure as the grabbling in the early rounds were beyond measure.
Osei Bonsu did look dominant in the first four rounds but Emmanuel Ayi mounted an amazing comeback as he fought close to six rounds with just the left hand due to injury. Ayi won the bout after surviving the full distance of 12 rounds.
