Open message from Freedom Development Movement to Sowore, other youth presidential aspirants, the current administration and Nigerians in general.

Dear fellow Nigerians, we hope you have all heard of the most shocking news ever in the history of our country. Subscribe to watch new videos On May 29, 1999, we successfully swam out of the terrible water of hardship we had experienced in the hands of the military and welcomed back democracy into our great nation.

We were all happy and very hopeful, because of our understanding of democracy as the “GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE AND FOR THE PEOPLE.” But little did we know that same old military men would quickly change their military uniforms to civilian suits and ‘agbada’, and return to rule the country.

That is the first sign that indicates - none of these men were serving their nation even as military men, rather, they have always been interested in what goes into their pockets. As if it is not enough to steal our commonwealth - our money - these greedy military-turned-politicians still went ahead and sign contracts that put a nation of over 170 million people into debts that our generation and maybe, our coming generations will live to pay. According to the news that broke on the May 24, 2018, which is still making round all over the country, Nigeria lost a case to an engineering company called Process & Industrial Development Limited. The company is registered in the British Virgin Islands and Nigeria has been ordered to pay $8.9 billion to the said company. Also, our country’s debt profile is standing at N21.7 Trillion as at March 2018 and that figure keeps growing every day. In addition, the total amount of money that has been spent on our power sector since the birth of our freedom has surpassed N800 billion. Still, since 1960, our dear nation is yet to celebrate only one day of nationwide steady power supply.

Fellow Nigerians, where do we go from here? If this is just one of our many problems, then what exactly are we proud of? When we leave our countries to off-shore countries, we see what countries mean by road network, what they mean by transportation system, traffic control, standard schools, proper health care system, food security, town planning. We see what they mean by industries, companies, jobs availability, efficient police services, independent justice system, living salaries and pensions for civil servants as well as clean water. What is a country without EQUALITY? What is a country without JUSTICE? WITHOUT UNITY? WITHOUT LOVE? WITHOUT SECURITY? WITHOUT PEACE? WITHOUT HONESTY? WITHOUT TRANSPARENCY? WITHOUT ACCOUNTABILITY? WITHOUT HOPE?

Nigerians, what is a country WITHOUT LIBERTY? For 58 years, we have been fed with lies of our politicians especially the old soldiers but look where we are today as a people. Consider the following; Cyprus got their independence in 1960, same year as Nigeria. Kuwait, in 1961; Botswana, in 1966 and United Arab Emirates in 1971. Today, all these countries enjoy stable electricity. Saudi Arabia has a population of about 33 million people; their Electricity generation capacity is approximately 55000 MW. Ghana is an African country in the same western region as Nigeria, but since 2007, Ghana has become an electricity exporter, which means they produce more electricity than they need. South Africa is a home to just about 56 million people; the power generating capacity is about 53000 MW.

But Nigeria with a population of over 170 million people is struggling with 7000 MW of electricity generation and distribution of only 5000 MW. In any country, if there is no stable and affordable electricity supply, development is totally impossible. It is like someone trying to run in darkness. Even if the Government of Nigeria had done nothing but provide stable and affordable electricity since 1960, our economy would have been far better and stable than it is today. Our hardship has become so much that it has contributed greatly to problems of killings, hatred, political unrest and fraudulent activities of all kinds that happen in our different societies within our country and even outside our borders.

According to the immigration report last year, over 1 million Nigerians left the country and never returned. But one thing we must all remember, the countries we all run to would never have been in their situations if the people of the countries fold their arms and refuse to do something about their nations. So, if our country must be rescued, it would have to be all of us working together to achieve that goal. We urge our new political offices aspirants, the likes of Omoyele Sowore, Kingsley Moghalu, Fela Durotoye, Mathias Tsado, Tope Fasua and Ahmed Buhari, to come together and work together so that we can all give our support to one united team. Sowore and other presidential candidates, you people are the only hope we Nigerians have right now and the only way we can help you is if you help us. If you people don’t come together, then you divide all of us. And believe it or not, no matter how we try, we would never achieve this dream of giving our country a new life in the 2019 presidential election. We do not think that it matters which among you people becomes the president. What matters is that you all form an administration that will unlock all the potentials of our country and put it back on the track to progress and prosperity for all and not for some. We are so ready, we are waiting, we hope the new breed of presidential hopefuls like Kingsley Moghalu will do what is right so we can all be on a common vision with one mission of taking back our country.

To those who are still flocking behind old soldiers, we say, shame to you all! We know you are doing that for no other reason than for the benefit you are getting from the bad situation of our country. But we promise you, that your days are numbered, you and all your corrupt politicians will be forgotten in the dustbin of history. And for those who would support anything because of tribe or religion affiliation, we want to advise you to have a re-think because, when our country suffers, we are all in it together. So, let’s put religion and tribalism aside and fight for what is just because it is only then we can all have religious and tribal groups that dwell in peace and progress. To those Nigerians who are used to saying, “It is none of my business.”

How selfish of you to forget your suffering neighbours, your suffering cousins, your suffering nieces and nephews, those graduates who stand on our roads daily to practice what we call, “Fine Bara.” How selfish of you to forget that there are millions of Nigerians out there who are living in abject poverty and those helpless children dying of diseases every day. You cannot choose to continue saying those words; we urge that you have a change of mind and for once, join us in the campaign for a better Nigeria. We should all remember that the progress of Nigeria is our progress; and for those who don't believe in Nigeria, those who are still agitating Biafra, we understand your pain. We know you are fed up because of the situation of the country. But we are very confident that when the sleeping giant is awakened, we are all going to live happily as one people, as one Nigeria. So, we are asking you to please join us in saving our nation; this may be the best thing we would ever have to do for our country. We do not condemn the current administration completely but we are not confident that it can lead us to a Nigeria of our dreams. We believe Nigeria can and will do better under different leadership with clearer vision and deeper passion in matters of statecraft. Therefore, we plead with them to please do the honourable thing in 2019 by stepping aside and give way to a “TRULY LIBERATED NIGERIA”. Every day when we wake up, our dreams call us, it is the same as the calls we receive on our phones, when it rings, there are always two options, the decision will make will either make us or break up; it is left to us to either accept the green button or the red button. God bless you all! God bless Nigeria, God bless our Africa continent!
