Ycee is undoubtedly one of the most exciting new artists working today.
After scoring one of 2017’s biggest hits, “Juice” featuring Maleek Berry, he came through with an EP, First Wave, that showcased even more of his impressive range.
His 2018 has been just as impressive, as he’s dropped a remarkable joint EP with Bella Alubo, Late Night Vibrations; shined on a bunch of solid features; and released two fantastic singles, “Say Bye Bye” and “Your Love”.
Now, he’s set to finally drop his debut album, Ain’t Nobody Badder Than.
During a recent interview with Pulse, Ycee revealed that the album, which he is currently concluding, will be out before the end of the year, and will include features from a bunch of superstars like Davido, Wizkid, Phyno and more.
About why he had to drop an EP first, Ycee said:
“There are certain artists that their debut album is their first offering, but I think in Nigeria, you have to amass a following that will make you putting out an album a profitable thing to do.
The EP was a test project. I touched on almost all genres, and I was able to identify which side of Ycee my core following leaned towards the most.”
About dropping an album in this singles-obsessed market, he continued:
“I feel what the industry is now is a singles market, but it’s not like people are not listening to albums. I think an album is something that the artist owes to their core fans”.
For the rest of the interview, Ycee also talked about almost quitting music, his reaction to M.I’s accusatory single, “You Rappers Should Fix Up Your Life, the state of Nigerian hip-hop and more. You can read the full interview right here.
