Policemen from Akwa Ibom State Command have arrested two brothers, Akaninyene and Ime Enyeokpon, who allegedly conspired and murdered their brother, Friday Enyeokpon, over witchcraft allegation.
The deceased, who lived at the same address as the suspects, was said to have gone into the bush to check his traps when he was waylaid and killed with machete by his two brothers.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, said in Uyo on Friday that the suspects, after killing their brother, beheaded him, buried the deceased’s head in the sand and abandoned his lifeless body in the bush.
Ogunjemilusi added that the suspects confessed to committing the crime, explaining that they carried out the act because they believed that their brother used witchcraft to manipulate their destinies and rendered them poor.
“The deceased, one Friday Enyeokpon ‘m’ of Ikot Abasi Asutan Village in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area left his house and went into the bush to check his traps and while still in the bush, the suspects, one Akaninyene Enyeokpon ‘m’, and Ime Enyeokpon ‘m’, both of same address, emerged from their hideouts, unlawfully killed the deceased, beheaded the deceased, buried the deceased’s head and abandoned the lifeless body in the bush.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime, noting that the deceased bewitched them with witchcraft and caused their misfortune in life.
“The deceased’s head was exhumed and deposited in the mortuary and two machetes used by the suspects in the murder of the deceased were recovered. Investigation is still in progress,” Ogunjemilusi said.
Meanwhile, the police also exhibited the corpse of a notorious criminal and successor to Akaninyene Jumbo (Iso Kpafid). The criminal, whose surname has yet to be known, used to be addressed as Stainless or by his alias name, Baggy Short.
Jumbo, who had been terrorising two local government areas of Akwa Ibom State, Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo, was killed on January 15, 2018 by a joint task force.
It was learnt that the people’s jubilation in the areas was cut short following the emergence of a self-crowned successor to Iso Kpafid.
Ogunjemilusi said Stainless led other hoodlums on a revenge mission and unleashed terror on the two LGAs by killing, raping; kidnapping, issuing threat letters and burning houses indiscriminately.
The police also arrested 17 suspects, who had been involved in different types of criminal activities, ranging from murder, armed robbery, cultism, unlawful possession of firearms, house breaking, to kidnapping.
It was gathered that the police also showcased some arms and ammunition, some of which were surrendered to them while others were mopped up.
