Popular Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is the cover star for TW Magazine‘s April 2018 Issue.
Chimamanda, a style icon in her own right, looks stunning a green silk Tiffany Amber oleku outfit. Her natural hair is piled high on top of her head in a pretty up-do and her make-up looks flawless.
This is the author's second cover this month; she broke barriers by being the first woman to appear on the cover of 'gentleman's magszine', PORT.
In anticipation of the release of the magazine, TW has shared 10 interesting facts about the author:
1. She is the author of the novels Purple Hibiscus, which won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize and the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award; Half of a Yellow Sun, which won the Orange Prize and was a National Book Critics Circle Award Finalist and a New York Times Notable Book; and Americanah, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award and was named one of The New York Times Top Ten Best Books of 2013.
2. Ms. Adichie is also the author of the story collection The Thing Around Your Neck and Dear Ijeawele, or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions was published in March 2017.
3. Chimamanda grew up in a house where the great icon and author, Chinua Achebe once lived. This may have contributed immensely to her developing a passion for writing.
4. After secondary school, she went on to study Medicine and Pharmacy at the University of Nigeria, she ran this program for one year, six months only.
5. At age 19, she got a scholarship to study communications and political science at Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA.
6. Brilliance definitely runs in her family because her father, James Adichie was Nigeria’s first professor of statistics and former deputy chancellor of the University of Nigeria. While her mother, Ifeoma Adichie was the first female registrar at the same university.
7. In 2015, Time magazine listed Chimamanda as one of the 100 most influential people.
8. Chimamanda, who prefers to be addressed as ‘miss’ is married to Dr. Ivara Esege. She is also a mother to a very beautiful, 2-year-old daughter who she syas she loves so helplessly.
9. During her interview with us, she stated that everyone should be a feminist. In her words ‘as a child, I was a feminist even though I didn’t know that word. I knew that the world did not accord to women the same privileges that it accorded to men.Why the most prestigious cultural practices were reserved for men, why there were so few women in positions of real power even though I could tell that women were just as intelligent as men’.
10. Her feminist talk and 2012 commonwealth lecture on cu[innecting cultures gave rise to American singer, Beyonce’s song titled ‘flawless’.
