In Benue: Fulani herdsmen reportedly kill 17 in fresh attack

Fulani herdsmen reportedly kill 17 in fresh attack on Benue village

The herdsmen were said to have stormed the Benue village on Monday in a suspected reprisal attack.

At least 17 people have reportedly been killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in a fresh attack in Olosu, a village in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to Channels TV, the Chairman of the Local Government, Ogwuche Olofu, confirmed the attack.

Olofu said the herdsmen attacked the village on Monday, March 5, 2018, after accusing the youths in the community of attacking them.

The LG chairman, who put the death figure at 17, said many people were also missing after the attack - a possible kidnap situation.

The police, however, are yet to confirm the number of people killed.

The attack comes hours after the Presidency announced that President Muhammadu Buhari would visit Benue, Yobe, Zamfara and Rivers states over the herdsmen crisis in the states.
