Food Recipe: Homemade burgers

There are days when I have intense burger cravings and can’t get it.

The only way I can have a burger without feeling guilty...

My favorite homemade burger has to be this Chicken burger with Guacamole.

There are days when I have intense burger cravings and can’t get it, because I’m either in “brokelyn” or I’m at home (family house) where there are no restaurants/ places that sell burger, because it is a “dead” area in Lagos mainland. Or I remember that I should be eating healthy.

The only way I can have a burger without feeling guilty, are the times when I’m out with friends and I just tell myself that one day will not make me fat * hehehe*. Or I simply just make my own burger, that way I am in total control of the contents of my burger.

Recipe: Chicken burgers with Guacamole, Cheddar & Charred tomatoes

Yield: 4

Time:1 hr

Ingredients:

For Chicken burgers

Ground chicken

3 tablespoon of chopped fresh cilantro

3 tablespoon of seasoned dry bread crumbs

Cooking spray/oil

1 teaspoon of Salt

½ teaspoon of Pepper

2 tomatoes, halved

1/3 cup of shredded Cheddar cheese

4 Hamburger buns (wheat/ whole-grain)

 

Toppings: Chopped tomatoes & Guacamole.

For Guacamole:

1 Large Avocado (ripe)

2 teaspoon of Extra virgin olive oil

½ teaspoon of Dried oregano

1 fresh lime, juiced

1 pinch of Salt

1 pinch of Pepper

Method:

How to make Guacamole

  • Mash Avocado in a bowl using a potato masher or a fork.

  • Add Olive oil, dried oregano, lime juice, Salt, and Pepper.

  • Mix well and set aside.

Method:

For Chicken burgers

  • Mix ground chicken, chopped fresh cilantro, seasoned dry bread crumbs, salt, and pepper.

  • Form into 4 (1-inch-thick) patties.

  • Coat grill with cooking spray/oil and grill patties with halved tomatoes, flesh-side down.

  • Grill over medium-high heat for 6 mins, turning, until patties are cooked through and tomatoes are charred.

  • Top evenly with the shredded Cheddar; let it melt.

  • Cut burger buns into half, on the bottom half, place grilled patties and charred tomatoes.

  • Spread guacamole on top, followed by chopped tomatoes.

  • Place the top of the buns on the burger, and Enjoy.

 

This healthy juicy burger, can be made to enjoy with friends at an outdoor gathering. As for me, I would rather enjoy this burger with my fellow fit-fam buddies or alone. *yum*
