The governor's chief of staff was invited to ascertain his alleged involvement in the disbursement and diversion of the 2015 PDP campaign funds.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly arrested Alhaji Ahmed Yayari, the chief of staff to Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo.

According to Leadership newspaper, the head of operations of the EFCC Gombe zonal office, Johnson Babalola, confirmed the arrest.

Yayari was said to have been arrested on Friday, March 2, as part of a probe into alleged misuse of the 2015 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign funds.

"Yes, we invited Yayari among others to our office. We are still investigating the matter," Babalola was quoted as saying.

He said the governor's chief of staff was invited to ascertain his alleged involvement in the disbursement and diversion of the campaign funds.

It was gathered that Gombe residents were in jubilation when they heard about the arrest of Yayari.

A level 10 civil servant who pleaded anonymity told the paper that the arrest of the chief of staff by the EFCC is a welcome development as it will serve as a deterrent to others.

He said, "The arrest of the chief of staff by the EFCC is long overdue. Many of us in Gombe, especially in the civil service are very happy with the development.

"We are the ones in charge of pushing files and we know what transpired during the elections and what is transpiring."

The frustrated worker called on the anti-graft commission to intensify investigation and ensure that all looters are jailed.
