Obafemi Awolowo University: Non-teaching staff disrupt JAMB mock exam

Obafemi Awolowo University workers disrupt JAMB mock exam

The workers said they disrupted the mock exam because the OAU VC threatened to dismiss them despite his awareness of their strike.

The non-teaching staff of the Obafemi Awolowo University on Monday, February 26, disrupted the 2018 UTME mock exam scheduled to hold in the school premises.

Obafemi Awolowo University ICT centre was one of the venues JAMB approved for the mock exam, but according to Dr Sururah Bello, the Centre Coordinator, OAU ICT, the exam could not hold after the non-teaching staff stormed the centre.

Sururah said the striking union members were aggrieved due to the fact that the Joint Action Committee, an umbrella body of the three unions, declared that the earned allowance earlier given to the management should be withdrawn.

Explaining the reason why the university workers disrupted the mock exam, Olusoji said the university management had threatened the worker to get back to work or risk dismissal despite being fully aware of the strike.

He added that the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede also threatened the workers that he'll to invite the police into the campus to clear the roadblocks mounted by striking workers.

This according to Olusoji caused the reactions which caused the aggrieved workers to disrupt the JAMB mock examination.
