Mikel Obi who now plays for Chinese outfit Tiajin Teda has backed his former team to knock Barcelona out of the Champions League
Super Eagles midfielder John Obi Mikel has backed Chelsea to overcome Barcelona when both sides meet in the return leg of the Champions League.
Speaking to Tianjin Today Evening News, Mikel admitted that it would be a difficult task for Chelsea to go to the Camp Nou and get a Victory.
He however, believes that Antonio Conte’s team can take inspiration from his 2012 Champions League winning Chelsea side that eliminated Barcelona at the Camp Nou in the semi-finals.
He said,“I believe they will knock out Barcelona on their own ground, just like we did in 2012.”
The Super Eagles captain admitted that he will always remember the semi-final victory of Barcelona.
He said, “I have been played [sic] for Chelsea for 11 years and that comeback I will remember for the rest of my life.”
Mikel left Chelsea for Chinese side Tianjin Teda, but admitted he still supports the London based outfit.
“Obviously I will continue to support Chelsea as always and hopefully they will go through into the next round.” Mikel said
Mikel Obi is expected to be included in Gernot Rohr's list for the upcoming friendly matches against Poland and Serbia, and should lead Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Ebele Obi had earlier stated that his brother would led Nigeria to the Semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup.
Mikel was among the Super Eagles players that unveiled the World Cup jerseys that caused massive reactions on social media.
