Nigerian lecturer develops herbal anti-cancer drugs

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Dutse says a lecturer at the Department of Biochemical developed the anti-cancer drug.

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutse,  Professor Fatima Batul Mukhtar has said that one of the university lecturers has developed a herbal anti-cancer and anti-diabetic drugs.

The VC while briefing newsmen on the university third convocation said the anti-cancer and anti-diabetic drugs developed by Dr Salihu Ibrahim Ismail of the Department of  Biochemical have successfully passed the pre-clinical stage.

Mukhtar also explained that “the anti-diabetic drug has gotten ethical approval for the clinical trial by the Kano state hospital management board.”

According to her “the clinical trial will commence at the Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital Kano very soon”

Speaking about the achievement of the university, the VC said: “the university has performed exceptionally well when the National University Commission (NUC) came for accreditation of its academic programmers in May/June last year where approval was given to the university to run eight programmes”.

Mukhtar also said that the university has signed an MoU with Morgan State University, Baltimore USA, aimed at ensuring students exchange, Faculty staff exchange programmes for teaching and research, conferences and workshops, exchange of academic programme materials, joint distance learning and research and publication.

Nigerian student reportedly developed cure for cancer

Recall that in July 2017, a student  of the African University of Science and Technology (AUST) in Abuja, Sandra Musujusu reportedly developed an alternative cure for cancer.

 

However, the Media Relations Manager of the University, Atulomah Obioha, in a telephone interview with Pulse  debunked the reports saying the student was misquoted as she has not developed any cure for cancer.

"The report as being circulated that Sandra Musujusu had discovered an alternative cancer treatment was not correct. She was misquoted and we have done all we could to correct it "Obioha  said.

Obioha also said that the University has barred Musujusu from speaking with the press in order not to create more problems.
