EMINENT Christian leaders have been mobilising Christian faithful to take advantage of the continuous voters registration exercise across the nation to acquire their Permanent Voters Cards and ensure they participate actively in the coming general election in 2019.
Everywhere you turn, you hear the same message to faithful of the Christian faith to debunk time-warn message that politics is a dirty game, emphasizing that the only way a nation can develop is when good people actively take part in governance and sanitize the polity for the good of everyone.
Speaking at the just concluded February monthly Holy Ghost Service at the Redemption Camp of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, General Overseer of the church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, re-emphasized the need for all members of the church to acquire their Permanent Voters Cards to enable them choose a leader of their choice in the 2019 general elections.
The former mathematics lecturer at the University of Lagos who has scheduled another prayer session for the peace of Nigeria as it prepares for a crucial general elections next year, was very emphatic in his appeal to the participants from different denominations to make sure they carry out their civic responsibility by registering for their voter’s card and vote for candidate of their choice.
“If you go to any of the registration centres across the country and they turn you back or ask you to come back, don’t be discouraged. Go again until you are able to register and collect your permanent voters card,” he announced to the crowd of worshippers.
In a similar development, erstwhile National President of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, urged Christians and indeed all Nigerians to take advantage of the continuous voters registration, to acquire permanent voter’s card ahead of the 2019 polls.
Addressing members of his Word of Life Bible Church, Warri, recently, Oritsejafor said Christians owe it a duty to register and collect their voters card in readiness for the election, despite the hazards associated with the process of registration exercise.
“People may discourage you by saying politics is a dirty game and it’s not caught out for Christians, but I say to you that evil thrives when the few good people in society fail to correct the ills in the society. The best way to correct the evils in any society is to participate by electing those who have credible pedigrees,” he advised.
Oritsejafor’s successor and current president of the CAN, Rev. Samson Ayokunle, has also been urging Christians to be actively involved in politics. A recent statement by his special assistant on media, Adebayo Oladeji, said the CAN President made the call at the 57th retreat of the Nigerian Baptist Convention.
According to the statement, Rev. Ayokunle advised Christians to become card carrying members of political parties and aspire to take over political offices like other concerned Nigerians.
