More Nigerians have gotten key appointments in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as Samson Adamu is now the new Director of Competitions and Mr A.U Mustapha, SAN, the new President of the CAF Appeals Board.
The appointments were made at the just concluded 40th CAF General Assembly in Casablanca, Morocco.“I wish to announce, with pride, that Mr Samson Adamu is the new CAF Director of Competitions and Mr A.U Mustapha, SAN, is the new President of the CAF Appeals Board,” NFF president Amaju Pinnick wrote on his Amaju Pinnick.
“Nothing fills me with more pride than seeing Nigerians striving to make football on the continent better. While thanking Nigerians for their support and their patience with all of us in charge of taking our football higher, I'm also grateful for the love you've shown us all."
Samson Adamu
Son of veteran sports administrator Amos Adamu, Samson is a sports professional and founder of the annual Copa Lagos.
Since he graduated from the De Montfort University in Leicester, England he has been involved in sports administration at several levels.
Mr A.U Mustapha
Mustapha is a barrister and senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
Other Nigerians in CAF
Both Adamu and Mustapha join other Nigerians who have key positions in CAF.Pinnick at the CAF elections in March 2017 won a seat on the Executive Committee of CAF, in May 2017 he was appointed the chairman of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and into the Media Committees of CAF.
He is also in the CAF Emergency Committee, an appointment he got on Friday, July 21 at the CAF Congress which held in Rabat, Morocco.
NFF vice president first vice president Seyi Akinwunmi is a member of the CAF Committee for Youth Competitions, while second vice President Shehu Dikko is on the Committee for Inter-Clubs Competitions and Club Licensing System.
NFF Executive Committee member, Ibrahim Musa Gusau and Yusuf Ahmed ‘Fresh’, who is the chairman of NFF Technical and Development Committee are members of the CAF Organizing Committee for the African Nations Championship (CHAN)
Chisom Mbonu is in CAF Executive Committee on Women Football while former NFF Board Member, Dr Peter Singabele is on the Medical Committee of CAF.
Chief Obinna Ogba, chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, is a member of the CAF Committee on Futsal and Beach Soccer while Ayo Omidiran, a ranking member of the House of Representatives and Chairman of NFF Women Football Committee, is a member of the organizing committee for the first –ever CAF Symposium on Women Football taking place in Morocco in February 2017.
