Umeh of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) defeated thirteen candidates at the rerun election for Anambra Central Senatorial District on Saturday, January 13, 2018.
Umeh who was also a former APGA chairman defeated current Labour and Employment Minister, Senator Chris Ngige of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with a wide margin.

Umeh swept to victory in Saturday’s poll by a landslide, securing 64,879 votes. None of the 13 other contestants in the election got up to a thousand votes.
The rerun was conducted in seven local government areas of Njikoka, Awka North, Idemili South, Dunukofia, Awka South, Anaocha and Idemili North.
The APGA candidate won in all the seven areas.
