Get ready for another industrial action if you school in Osun state

The impending strike will affect Osun State University, Osun State College of Health Technology Osun State Polytechnic and Osun State College of Education.

Students in government-owned higher institutions in Osun state might begin the new year with another strike as their lecturers vow to paralyse academic activities on January 15.

The lecturers say they will begin the industrial action if the government refuse to address their demands.

The impending strike will affect Osun State University, Osun State College of Health Technology Osun State Polytechnic and Osun State College of Education.

 

The Chairman of the Council of Academic Staff Unions of Osun State Owned Tertiary Institutions, CASUOSTI, Mr Olusegun Lana announced the looming industrial action in the state saying the lecturers have given a strike notice to Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

He said, ''we have several peculiar issues still requiring urgent attention of the state government. These include the issue of unconsolidated allowances, that is peculiar; hazard and medical; 2014 promotion and migration; our yet-to-be-reinstated colleagues; 2016 leave bonuses and so on.

“Therefore, the notice of strike already served stands. As concurrently decided by our congresses, in the unexpected event that the issues we have registered remain unresolved, all members of academic staff in the four tertiary institutions shall commence a total and an indefinite strike from 15th January 2018 to press home our demands.”

By contrast, while the news of the  impending strike may propel Osun State university to start the new year on  a negative note, it is safe to say that Osun State University ended 2017 on a very positive one as one of its medical students emerged the best graduating student in Ukraine.

Ms Latifat Abiola Oyeleye, was declared the overall best medical student of the Karazin Kharkiv National University as well as the 2017 overall best student in the entire Ukraine with an outstanding score of 95.6% in KROK 2 Exams.
