After a back-and-forth contest, it looked like the Crimson Tide were well in position to win another championship after a heroic effort from backup quarterback and true freshman Tua Tagovailoa brought the team back from a 13-0 halftime deficit. Tied 20-20, Alabama had the ball and was well positioned to win the game with a field goal in the final seconds.

Kicker Andy Pappanastos had already missed earlier in the game, but Alabama had centered the ball and Pappanastos was one solid kick away from erasing his earlier mistake and bringing a title home to for the Crimson Tide.

The moment was immediately deflating for Alabama and instantly breathed new life into the Georgia sideline. Both coaches reacted accordingly.

Still, the Crimson Tide would ultimately prevail. After the Alabama defense was able to hold Georgia to a field goal, Tua Tagovailoa threw his best pass of the game to find DeVonta Smith in the end zone and secure the title for the Crimson Tide, winning by a final score of 26-23.
