Politics: Trump cites a poll that finds US citizens have faith in the economy but question his mental fitness

Donald Trump

A majority of US citizens think Trump is intelligent (53%), 69% think he is not level-headed, and 57% say he is not fit to serve as president, the poll says.

President Donald Trump tweeted on Thursday morning about a recent Quinnipiac poll that found 66% of US citizens think the economy is "excellent" or "good," but the same poll gave him low marks for mental fitness.

While a majority of US citizens think Trump is intelligent (53%), 69% think he is not level-headed, and 57% say he is not fit to serve as president, according to the poll.

The poll came after Trump repeatedly tweeted in defense of his intelligence and fitness for office, wherein he brandished his personal successes to support his assertion that he's a "very stable genius."

Overall, the poll clocked Trump's approval rating at 36%, which has changed little over the course of his first year in office. The same poll found a plurality of voters (39%) graded Trump's first year in office as an F.

The poll surveyed 1,106 voters nationwide and declares a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6%.
