People had a lot to say about last year and most of them were about how tough the year was. So many people couldn't recount their achievements for the year because of the number of failures they had.
Happy New Year! I know I'm a bit late but you know what they say - “better late than never”. So I officially welcome you all to 2018. People had a lot to say about last year and most of them were about how tough the year was.
So many people couldn't recount their achievements for the year because of the number of failures they had.
Most had goals they set at the beginning of the year but couldn't achieve them.
Well thank God it's a new year which means time to set new goals, pursue new opportunities and just try everything differently. You can't expect a different result if you keep doing things the old way. This year try to be more open to new ideas and also be innovative.
Setting goals at the beginning of the year is definitely a good way to start the year. It gives you a sense of direction and challenges you to put in your very best to ensure you have a great year. It is good to set goals but even more important to set realistic goals.
I'm sure a lot of us have already written down quite a number of things we want to achieve this year. Some which are very realistic and achievable and some which are quite far-fetched.
Not sure whether your goals are realistic or not? Consider the following tips and evaluate your goals
Set goals in line with your passion
Your goals should reflect your personality and the things you like. The worst mistake you can make is copy someone's goals. I can assure you it would be an epic fail.
Everyone likes different things. You know the things you like to do, the kind of places you like to visit, etc. So when setting your goals, let it be in line with the things you're passionate about.
Be more specific about what you want to achieve and time you want to achieve them
Make sure your goals are specific. Write down exactly what you want. For example, saying you want to save a lot of money is quite vague, it'll be better if you say you want to save at least one hundred thousand naira or five hundred thousand naira. Just make sure the figures are realistic.
When you set a specific figure, it makes you more driven. You can even share it into smaller bits and specify how much of it you want to achieve every week, month or quarter of the year.
Commitment
You should consider your willingness and ability to commit to those goals. The truth is most of the time we write down a lot of goals and then focus on only one or two.
You know your schedule and how much free time you have everyday or week and you know how much you earn or hope to earn this year. Put all these into consideration before setting your goals so in the long run you won't cheat on them.
Take one goal at a time
Yes, you set your goals for the entire year but there is only so much you can do at a time. First thing you should do is classify your goals.
Separate them into short and long term goals. Short term goals could be those you plan to achieve within the first three months of the year. Now the long term goals are equally important but because there's more time to achieve them, you can work on them at a slower pace compared to the short term goals.
That way, you can start striking items off your list from the very first month of the year.
Do not give up!
Nothing good comes easy. You might not achieve some of your goals at the set time but that's not a reason to stop trying. Even if it takes a longer time, make sure you work hard to achieve most of them.
