Buhari writes Senate, lists efforts to end killings

Leke Baiyewu, Abuja
President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the Senate to explain the efforts so far made by him to end the killings by suspected herdsmen in Benue State.
The President’s letter was in response to the Senate’s resolutions on the spate of insecurity in Benue and other parts of the country.
“Several courses of action have been taken prior to the Senate resolution,” he stated.
Buhari recalled that he sent the Minister of Interior, Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd.) and the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation, while he was briefed verbally by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.
He said, “The IG briefed me verbally on the latest situation, informing that calm had been restored.”
