Governor Ambode is mourning one of his aides, Deji Tinubu who slumped on a football pitch.
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State is mourning the death of his Special Adviser on Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Mr Deji Tinubu.
Tinubu slumped while playing a novelty game in Epe alongside other Lagos State government officials on Thursday, January 25, 2018.
He was certified dead at the hospital hours later.
Ambode described the late Tinubu as a “fine gentleman and team player who was committed and passionate about the Lagos vision”.
“May his soul rest in peace”, Ambode added.
Seasoned journalist
Tinubu was a seasoned sports journalist before being called to serve as Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission under former Governor Babatunde Fashola.
He maintained that portfolio until a recent cabinet reshuffle took him to the Commerce and Industry department.
Alongside Deji Omotoyinbo and Bode Oguntuyi, Deji Tinubu contributed to bringing flair, finesse and depth to sports broadcasting on radio and television in the late ‘90s through early ‘2000s.
Tinubu was one of Nigeria’s most analytical sports journalists.
