Social media users tore Morata apart following his several misses against Arsenal.
Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata got social media trolling after his several misses in the 2-2 draw at Arsenal on Wednesday, January 3.
When Chelsea paid 58 million pounds for Spanish International Alvaro Morata, his signing was heralded on social media as a match made in Heaven and a better replacement to Diego Costa who was to return to Spain.
Fast forward five months into his time with the current English champions he has been deemed as a 'miss' by some fans following his awful performance in front of goal in the match against Arsenal where he missed three clear chances.
Morata's first chance came in the 14th minute, but he made a huge mess of it. After a long ball over for him to race through on goal and only the keeper to beat, but his finish was dreadful.
His second came in the 70th minute to give Chelsea the lead, Cesc Fabregas slides the ball through for the striker, who shows good strength to beat Chambers to the ball, but clipped his finish off target.
The final chance in the 93rd minute to win the game, a ball over the top releases him, but his finish is was weak.
The Chelsea manager, however, showed support for his player, he revealed that he told his striker to 'stay calm', 'keep working' and just be mindful that 'the goal is coming'.
Conte said at the Emirates. “I repeat I understand for a striker it’s not easy if you don’t score, but don’t forget for Alvaro it’s his first season playing regularly. He didn’t always play with Real Madrid and Juventus.
"You have to know this. I’m very happy with his commitment and the way he’s playing. He has to stay calm continue to play this way. The goal is coming.” “We win together, we lose together, we draw together."
Morata was reported to have been signed by Chelsea after failing in their pursuit of Romelu Lukaku, hence rival fans compare both players.
Morata has scored a total of 12 goals since his arrival (10 in the League, one in the Champions League and one in the Carabao Cup).
