Pulse List: You can see the sun at 12 am in these places

Midnight sun

There are some places that experience sunlight for 24 hours straight without a break.

This phenomenon is known as 'The Midnight Sun'. This natural phenomenon occurs in local summer months in the north of the Arctic and south of the Antarctic Circle.

The opposite phenomenon called Polar Night occurs when sun remains below the horizon in winters.

Some of these countries include:

1. Norway

During the summer months or from late May to late July, the sun never completely descends beneath the horizon in areas north of the Arctic Circle (hence Norway’s description as the “Land of the Midnight Sun”.

The rest of the country experiences up to 20 hours of daylight per day.

So, soak in the experience of your days of the midnight sun in Northern Norway.

The sun literally never sets there.

2. Canada

In Inuvik and Northwest Territories, Canada, daytime never ends for about 50 days during the summer.

Canadians enjoy fishing and hunting, participating in the Great Northern Arts Festival, playing golf on the tundra and participating in the Midnight Sun Fun Run.

3. Finland

In most parts of this country, the sun shines for straight 73 hours during summers and they experience no sunlight during winters.

The midnight sun shines above the Arctic circle, but here the sun briefly dips beyond the horizon and then rises again which results in blurring of the boundary between dying night and dawning day.

4. Alaska

The sun doesn't set in Alaska from late May to late July. Fairbanks a town in Alaska south of the Arctic Circle sees the sun setting around 12:30 am in the summer solstice. This is because Fairbanks is 51 minutes ahead of its idealised time zone.

5. Iceland

The sun never fully sets and travels horizontally across the horizon throughout the night. Europe's second largest island sees no dark from early May until July because the sun is above the horizon all the time.

During the Arctic summer, the sun sets at midnight and rises at 3 in the morning.
