President Muhammadu Buhari has been hailed for extending the tenure of all the service chiefs in the country.
The Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency [CESJET, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for extending the tenure of Nigeria’s service chiefs.
The group noted that the extension of the tenure of the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Air Staff and the Chief of Naval Staff, did not come as a surprise given the dedication with which they have pursued their mandate to deal with Nigeria’s security problems.
President Buhari had, on Monday, December 18, 2017, approved the extension of the tenure of the service chiefs and the approval was confirmed by the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, in a statement by his Public Relations Officer, Colonel Tukur Gusau.
Reacting to the cheering news, CESJET Executive Secretary, Isaac Ikpa, the group said the development was a clear indication that the Nigerian military has done the nation proud in spite of sustained attempts by enemies of the country and terrorists.

“CESJET is pleased to learn that President Muhammadu Buhari, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has approved the extension of tenure of service of General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ikwe Ibas, the Chief of Naval Staff and Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff.
The extension, which is in line with section 218 [1] and [2] of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and section 09.06 of the revised Harmonised Terms and Conditions for Service for officers [2012].
This did not come as a surprise given the dedication with which these gentlemen have pursued their mandate to deal with Nigeria’s security problems.
It is proof that the Nigerian military has done the nation proud in spite of sustained attempts by enemies of the country and terrorists’ collaborators to convince the world that the opposite was the case.
We urge all the service chiefs to see the extension of their tenure as a call to national service and a renewed directive to end all insurgencies and sustain the unity of Nigeria which they can achieve by doubling even the best of efforts they have made in the most recent past.

We commend President Buhari for being discerning to realize that he has the best team in the present crop of military leaders whose tenure he has extended.
Our hope is that the military will enjoy even greater support from Mr President to fight terrorism and insurgency with the vote of confidence that the extension connotes.
CESJET appeals to Nigerians to increase their support for the military so that the period of their extended tenure would yield further successes in ridding Nigeria of existential threat and leave room for citizens to concentrate on activities that would enable Nigeria fully explore its full potentials.”
