Homemade skin care remedies

These easy homemade skin care treatments will rejuvenate your skin

Taking care of your skin, as necessary as it is, can prove to be rather expensive and sometimes we need to look to nature and what we have in our kitchen to create our own home remedies.

Skin care is the very basis and the most important when it comes to beauty, more-so than make-up, no matter how expensive it is, it won't look good if your skin isn't in top condition. Skin however, is notoriously temperamental and it's a case of trial and error to find out what works for you.

The problem with branded skin products is they often contain chemicals and compounds that can react with skin and can be quite harsh. This leads to uneven skin tones, bumps and redness. However, natural products are a lot more easy on the skin but that means you have to be consistent with your treatments in order to see results.

Here are a couple of ridiculously easy recipes that you can make at home and if you use them 2-3 times a week, after your normal exfoliation, you too can be #skingoals.

Honey and Clay Mask

Clay is an incredible ingredient that works wonder for the skin. Clay quite literally pulls impurities from out of the skin and pores leaving it fresher, cleaner and brighter. Raw honey (emphasis on the raw and not processed) is naturally antibacterial and full of antioxidants which are great for a deep cleanse.

Ingredients

  • 1 TB bentonite clay
  • 1 TB water
  • 1 TB raw honey

Method

Combine the bentonite clay, honey, and water. (Please do not use a metal utensil or bowl when working with bentonite clay.) Apply to the face for 10-15 minutes.  To remove the mask, wash your face with warm water and a washcloth.

Tumeric Face Mask

Tumeric has near miraculous effects on the skin. Tumeric, as well as being anti-inflammatory, reduces redness  and is a brilliant anti-oxidant. Indians have been using tumeric for centuries to cure a number of skin ailments and swear by its healing effects. Tumeric also evens skin tones and has been credited as being nature's natural toner.

Ingredients

  • 1 TB of Tumeric Powder
  • A small pot of natural Greek yogurt

Method

Mix ½ teaspoon turmeric with 2 tablespoons of plain Greek yogurt, then use your fingers to apply the mixture to your entire face, neck, and chest.

Leave on for 20 to 30 minutes, then remove the paste with warm water (and a cloth you don't mind staining).
